Understanding Range, Speed and Ground Clearance

Range

Range is the distance on a full charge under favourable conditions. Treat it as a ceiling rather than a promise, and reduce your expectation for hills, cold weather and heavier loads. If your round trip is near the rated figure, choose a larger battery.

Speed

Top speed is limited by the motor, controller and the vehicle classification. Many enclosed mobility scooters top out around 32 km/h, which is appropriate for the roads and paths they are designed for. Higher speed also drains the battery faster.

Ground clearance

Clearance determines what you can roll over without scraping. Roughly 120mm handles broken pavement, curb cuts and gravel comfortably. Lower clearance is fine on smooth surfaces but becomes limiting on rural roads.

Reading a spec sheet properly

Look at these three together with battery capacity and charging time. A long range figure paired with a 10 hour charge suits daily use differently to a shorter range that recharges quickly.
